“Avatar: Way of Water”: Movie Premiere

It is true what they say that sometimes, the most profound life lessons come from the silver screen.

In December 2022, SI/Batangas Downtown (Philippines Region) and four of its scholars, successfully organized a movie premiere fundraiser. The event, which premiered "Avatar: Way of Water,” was rich with valuable life lessons, wisdom, empathy, and self-discovery.

The fundraiser attracted 30 major sponsors and sold out all 360 tickets, resulting in gross sales of ₱326,000. After deducting food and venue expenses, the net income amounted to ₱162,965. These proceeds were allocated to funding the club’s scholars.

In addition to showcasing the movie, the club use the occasion to amplify its message through public service announcements (PSAs) aired before the main event. These PSAs illuminated the urgent issue of violence against women and underscored the significance of safeguarding their rights. This impactful cinematic piece served as a catalyst for public awareness, compelling us all to unite against such injustices and highlighting the support Soroptimists provide. The club effectively conveyed the message that every woman deserves safety, respect, and the preservation of their fundamental rights.

“We Let Go to Let Our Scholars Grow” Sale

In September 2022, the club organized a sale of preloved clothes, bags, and shoes. About a month after the physical sale, the club used "Facebook Live" to continue selling items and connect with customers who were far away. This approach proved highly effective, enabling the club to present items in real time and interact with a broader audience. Indeed, the club embraced the concept of "letting go" of possessions to foster the growth of local women by funding their education.

Club Giving

The total net income from all of club fundraising projects last year amounted to just over half a million pesos. As a result, the club donated 10%, or $1,000, to Club Giving.

SI/Batangas Downtown shows that getting a little creative can pay off!
