Celebrate First /Violet Richardson Month of Giving/

Let us continue the work together and with others, toward the development of a better womanhood, a better manhood, and a better citizenship.
— Violet Richardson, First President of SIA

Happy Founders Day! The first Soroptimist club was founded on October 3, 1921, in Oakland, California, USA. It was a day when a group of female pioneers, led by President Violet Richardson, united in their purpose to create an organization committed to improving the lives of women and girls.

What started as a single club with 80 women philanthropists, is now a global network of Soroptimist federations with more than 75,000 members across six continents!

Now 101 years later, we continue to honor Violet’s incredible legacy with the first annual Violet Richardson Month of Giving!

Soroptimists play an important role in Violet's legacy by continuing her work to invest in the dreams of half a million women and girls through access to education over the next 100 years.

As with our predecessors, the road forward may not always be easy. Even after 101 years, women and girls still face inequality, and they still need our help. But our united purpose will see us through. Let us be inspired by the strength and generosity of our founders as we embark on our next century.

In honor of the beginning of The Violet Richardson Month of Giving, please consider becoming a Stargazer Monthly Donor–or if you already are one, please consider increasing your monthly gift. Your monthly gift in honor of Soroptimist’s first president helps provide the resources we need to invest in the dreams of women and girls for another century. You may also make a one-time donation in celebration of The Violet Richardson Month of Giving to support women and girls across the world in their efforts to achieve their dream through economic empowerment.

None of our work would be possible without the generosity, passion, and dedication of our members!
