Changes to Club Eligibility for Canva for Nonprofits
For some time, SIA has encouraged clubs to apply for the Canva for Nonprofit program to receive free access to premium Canva features.
Unfortunately, Canva has recently changed its eligibility criteria to exclude subordinate organizations that do not have their own recognition of 501(c)(3) tax exemption from the IRS.
This means:
Clubs in the U.S. that have their non-profit status through SIA’s group exemption are no longer eligible for the Canva for Nonprofits discount (this is most U.S clubs).
Clubs in the U.S. that have independently filed their non-profit status with the IRS may still be eligible.
Please be advised that Canva’s vetting process is rigorous and requires a copy of the EIN assignment letter from the IRS, bank letter or voided deposit slip with the organization’s name, signed/stamped governing documents such as articles of association/bylaws, signed/stamped governing documents stating the organization’s mission, proof that you work for or are qualified to represent the organization, and government-issued ID.
Clubs outside the U.S. should carefully review the new Canva for Nonprofits eligibility requirements for their country to see if they qualify.
Clubs that do not meet Canva’s new eligibility requirements can continue to use the free version of Canva or may opt to pay for premium features (Canva Pro costs $10/user per month at the time of this announcement).
SIA has updated its shared Canva templates to ensure they remain accessible to free users.
We apologize for any confusion or challenge that has resulted from these changes to Canva’s nonprofit program.
