Reach, Engagement, Audience: What Does it All Mean?
Analytics are an essential part of tracking your success in efforts on websites, social media and other platforms. We will go over some popular analytic terms for social media in this edition!
Engagement Metrics (How people interact with your content)
Likes / Reactions: Count how many users liked or chose a reaction to the post. This is a quick indicator of positive engagement.
Shares / Retweets: Measure how many times users are distributing your content. This helps expand your reach to new audiences, which is a good metric to follow for building new audiences.
Comments / Replies: Track how many people responded directly to the post. Engagement at this level can show deeper interest and involvement. Higher engagement also prompts the algorithm to show the post to more people.
Mentions: Show how often users are mentioning your page in other posts. A lot of mentions can gain more engagement with a new audience.
Reach & Visibility (How far your message goes)
Impressions: Number of times your post was shown on someone’s screen. This helps you understand how widely your content is being displayed.
Reach: Number of unique users who saw your post. This metric shows how many individual people were exposed to your content.
Click-through rate (CTR): Percentage of viewers who clicked a link in your post. This measurement indicates how effective your content is at driving action.
Traffic sources: Identifies where your viewers came from (e.g., search engines, direct visits, social media). This information helps you learn which channels are bringing people to your content and where you could focus your efforts for communication.
Audience Insights (Who is engaging with you)
Demographics: Age, gender, location, and language are all information that can help you understand your audience and how they prefer communication.
Active times: Shows when your audience is most active online, so you can post when your content is most likely to be viewed.
