Around the world, women and girls still face barriers that stifle their potential and limit their dreams. Our mission is to provide them with the education, advocacy, and support they need to overcome these hurdles. Last year, we reached nearly 48,000 women and girls, igniting hope in the hearts of those who need it most. But there’s still more work to do.

Tammy Bengtson’s Journey from Award Recipient to Soroptimist Leader

Before I ever became a club president, I was a woman in need of help. 

I married at 17 and later found myself in an abusive relationship. When I left, I became a single mother of four sons, carrying the daily weight of uncertainty about how I would provide for my family.  

During our darkest days, the Live Your Dream Award was a lifeline. It helped me put food on the table, pay bills, and keep going when hope felt fragile. 

That support changed the trajectory of my life. 

Because of Soroptimist, I was able to regain stability, pursue opportunities, and believe in a brighter future. Today, I’m honored to serve as president of my club, SI/Oakdale, CA, and to give back to the organization that once lifted me up.
