Registration and Mandatory Convention Club Fees FAQ

When is the mandatory convention club fee due?

The mandatory convention fee is payable to SIA no later than March 15, 2024. Clubs that have not remitted the convention fee on or before March 15, 2024, will also be required to remit a late fee equal to 10% of the convention fee (this amount is $80.00 for the 48th Biennial Convention).

What factors are considered in determining the registration and mandatory convention club fees?

Before determining registration and mandatory convention club fees, SIA Board of Directors considered all relevant factors:

  • What similar events cost. Benchmarking was done, comparing similar events' pricing to ours to ensure comparable pricing.

  • Budgeted revenue and expenses associated with this event. Revenue was projected based on a conservative estimated number of attendees.

  • Whether or not the event would be an attractive offering to members and potential members. We want to offer our members a quality event that showcases SIA, enhances our brand recognition and assists clubs with membership recruitment and retention.

Why was the mandatory convention club fee implemented?

The mandatory convention club fee was implemented as a cost-sharing model with SIA clubs. Without the support of our clubs, we would be unable to offer conventions that many of our members look forward to and value. We attempt to make the mandatory convention club fee affordable by including the cost of registration for one delegate for each of our clubs. We recognize clubs in some regions such as Latin America are experiencing ongoing socio-economic conditions. The board remains supportive of these clubs and has provided member dues support and, in the past, has waived the mandatory convention club fee if it presents a financial burden. This support will continue to be offered to clubs requiring it.

What happens if my club does not pay the mandatory convention club fee?

Clubs that do not pay the mandatory convention club fee or indicate it presents a financial burden (and request support from SIA) will be deemed not in good standing. For a club's good standing to be reinstated, they must pay the fee or indicate their hardship.

What event expenses does the mandatory convention club fee help to cover?

The income generated from the registration fees and mandatory club convention fees is used to offset the overall cost of expenses, including but not limited to translation/interpretation of crucial messaging for our international stakeholder base, content development, production, entertainment, electronic balloting to support the required general business meeting that is held in conjunction with this event, and more.

We are excited to gather in person for the first time since Yokohama, Japan, in 2018. Stay tuned for more registration details. See you in Bellevue!
