Your Guide To Creating a Fundraiser on Facebook

Facebook allows you to easily create fundraisers for the causes that matter to you. It's a meaningful way to celebrate birthdays, campaigns, or special moments while supporting Soroptimist’s mission. Every donation helps empower women and girls to achieve their full potential.

The easiest way to start fundraising for Soroptimist International of the Americas is to click the following link! https://www.facebook.com/fund/soroptimist

And here's a step-by-step guide on how to set up your fundraiser on Facebook, plus tips on how to make it a successful fundraiser!

Step 1: Log in to Facebook

Log in to your Facebook account.

Step 2: Go to the Fundraisers Section

  • From your News Feed, click on the Menu button (three horizontal lines) in the bottom right corner on mobile, or the top right corner on desktop.

  • Scroll down and select Fundraisers or type "Fundraisers" into the search bar.

Step 3: Click "Raise Money"

Once on the Fundraisers page, click the Raise Money button to choose a nonprofit organization.

Step 4: Choose Soroptimist International of the Americas, Inc. (Philadelphia, PA)

In the search bar, type "Soroptimist International of the Americas, Inc." and select it from the list. Here’s the link to SIA’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/soroptimist/

* Please note there are dozens of Soroptimist International of the Americas Facebook pages. Using the link above or choosing the one that says Philadelphia, PA, ensures you are creating a fundraiser for SIA Headquarters.

Step 5: Set Your Fundraising Goal and Deadline

You’ll be prompted to set a fundraising goal. Any amount helps—even small donations can make a big impact! Then, choose the date you want the fundraiser to end.

Step 6: Personalize Your Fundraiser

Facebook gives you the option to personalize your fundraiser. You can:

  • Title your fundraiser (i.e., "[Your Name]'s Birthday/ International Women’s Day Fundraiser for Soroptimist").

  • Write a description about why you're raising money for Soroptimist International of the Americas. You can share our mission or your “Soroptimist Why.”
     Here’s an example:

"I’m raising money for Soroptimist International of the Americas, Inc., a global organization dedicated to helping women and girls achieve their dreams. I’m so proud to be a member of this organization. Please join me in celebrating [my birthday, International Women’s Day, etc.] by making a donation to support this incredible cause!"

Step 7: Select a Cover Photo

Facebook will choose a default cover photo for your fundraiser, but you can change it to something more personal if you prefer (your club, favorite Soroptimist experience, etc.).

Step 8: Publish and Share Your Fundraiser

Once everything is set, click Create. Your fundraiser will now be live, and it’s time to share it with your friends and family! Post the link on your timeline, send it through Messenger, and encourage people to support Soroptimist International of the Americas in honor of your birthday.

Step 9: Continue the Momentum by Doing the Following

  • Reach out to friends and family who would support your fundraiser and share a heartfelt message about why Soroptimist matters to you, including any personal experiences or stories. This helps people connect with your campaign on an emotional level.

  • Use videos and photos to capture attention and keep supporters engaged. Whether it's showing how the funds will be used or a thank-you video for donors, visuals can make a strong impact. Make sure to tag friends who have donated! (This might end up on their feed for their friends to see too!)

  • Expand your reach by sharing your fundraiser on other platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn. Additionally, send the link through email to friends, family and colleagues, making sure to highlight the urgency of your fundraiser.

  • Post frequent updates on your progress, thanking those who have donated, and sharing how close you are to your goal. This encourages continued engagement and new contributions.

  • Offer small rewards or shout-outs for certain donation milestones. For example, promise to do something fun or challenging (like matching the first five donations) to inspire people to give!

Step 10: Celebrate Your Impact

Once your fundraiser ends, Facebook will send the funds directly to SIA Headquarters. Take pride in knowing your Facebook fundraiser made a difference in the lives of women and girls around the world!
