Holiday Wish List to Support Your /Live Your Dream Awards/ Recipients

Past award recipient Reba with her family.

While being a single mom is tough, being a single mom trying to survive the holidays can be even harder. Without a doubt, moms wish to create the best holiday possible for their children and make memories to last a lifetime.

Having the time and financial freedom to shop for gifts, wrap presents, bake cookies, and decorate the house are holiday activities many take for granted. But all the joys of the holiday season can be stressful when even the most fundamental needs still need to be met. Putting gas in the car, paying utility bills and feeding the family are everyday necessities that not every single mom can afford on her own.

For many of our Live Your Dream Awards recipients—who are pursuing higher education or skills training so they can achieve economic empowerment—holiday expenses can overburden their budget when top priorities include tuition, books and childcare. These women, who are the primary wage earners for their households, have overcome enormous obstacles to get to where they are today. But that does not mean they don’t continue to struggle as they pave the way to a better future for themselves and their families.

This holiday season, help create miracles for those who need it most. Here are some ways you can ensure your Live Your Dream Awards recipients’ holidays are merry, bright and full of cheer.

  • Provide presents for her children or provide gift cards so that she may purchase gifts for them herself.

  • Give her a “treat yourself” gift card to get a massage, haircut or buy new clothes so that she can do something special for herself.

  • Pay her utility bills or cell phone bill for the month.

  • Buy her a Christmas tree or decorations for whatever holiday she and her children celebrate this time of year.

  • Bring her all the fixings for a holiday dinner or give her a grocery store gift card to purchase her own food.

  • Cover the cost of a “Mommy and Me” fun day for her and her children to do a festive activity together.

Every bit of additional support helps so that your Live Your Dream Awards recipient can experience joy while spending time with her children over the holidays. A thoughtful gift can go a long way and fill her family with excitement for a happy new year.
