Member Spotlight: Marivic Vergel de Dios & Dina Aycock

Soroptimist never tire of talking about our incredible Dream Programs. We love helping to empower women and girls by providing access to education!

Through the Live Your Dream Awards program (which this year celebrates its 50th Anniversary!) Soroptimists have transformed the lives of tens of thousands of women seeking an opportunity to improve life for themselves and their families by investing in their education goals.

Below are just a couple of quotes from our members across the globe talking about how much Soroptimist’s Dream Programs mean to them.

Marivic Vergel de Dios

Marivic has been a Soroptimist since 1994. She served as past president of SI/San Rafael, Philippines and continues to be an active leader in her community.

Since I joined Soroptimist, I was really inspired to share its mission in helping women and girls uplift their lives through education for sustainable economic empowerment.

When I became the Club President in 2008-2010, I really made the effort to seek the help of friends in the academe and other women organizations to look for candidates for the Live Your Dream Awards. Through our collaborative efforts, our club's candidate became the Region Runner Up in 2010 and received a cash award from SIA. The amount did help her to finish her education in Nursing and now we are proud of her for she is a full-fledged Nurse working in London. It was indeed an honor for all of us for this great achievement.

Other club's scholarship program followed and now they are working, helping and supporting their families. We continue to look for women and girls to give them education including those in the far flung areas. Last year, our Live Your Dream Awards candidate belonged to an indigenous tribe that lives in the mountains, the Dumagat people.

Helping women through education is my most rewarding experience being a Soroptimist.
