Protect Yourself Against Spam Emails

There is an increase in spam emails impersonating SIA Headquarters. These messages may look legitimate and use familiar names, email signatures, logos, or references to Soroptimist activities.

Tips for Recognizing a Suspicious Email

To protect yourself, please follow this checklist:

  • Check the sender’s full email address. An email may display a recognizable name but have misspellings or an address that does not match the sender’s name or organization.

  •  Do not respond to suspicious emails.

  • Do not click links or open attachments in suspicious emails.

  •  Do not share personal or financial information in response to suspicious emails.

Verify directly with headquarters. If you are unsure whether an email is from SIA, send a new email to siahq@soroptimist.org to confirm. Do not reply to the suspicious message.

What If You Have Already Responded?

If you have clicked a suspicious link, shared information, sent money, or purchased something in response to a fraudulent message, act quickly.

  • Change any compromised passwords, especially if you use the same password for other accounts.

  • Contact your bank or financial institution immediately.

  • Report the incident to your email provider and, when appropriate, the relevant authorities.

  • Notify SIA immediately to help alert others.
