Putting Dreams into Action with SI/Rose Fukuyama

SI/Rose Fukuyama (Japan Nishi Region), put on a Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls project with the title, “Toward Your Dreams! 2023: Life Becomes as Interesting as the Number of Encounters You Have!” The project included 24 junior high and high school girls between the ages of 14 and 17 and 12 with club members also participating.

It was a 150-minute session that discussed with the girls the importance of choosing a career based on the values they believe in, and how to connect those values to their careers. Specifically, the sessions were “Exploring Careers,” “Putting Dreams into Action,” and “My Plan,” with four to five students per table and a Soroptimist facilitator.

Newscaster Yoko Maruko, a member of SI/Kure, gave a lecture entitled “Life is as Interesting as the Number of Encounters you Have.” The students listened with sparkling eyes. The lecture gave the girls great courage to think about their future.

Dream It, Be It reaches girls in secondary school who face obstacles to their future success. Through small group workshops or a conference setting, we mentor girls on setting and achieving their goals, moving forward after setbacks or failures, and discovering career opportunities.

What does it take to start a Dream It, Be It Project?

We believe in the power of girls to affect change. Girls hear our messages that they can make a difference in their world, but then they are confronted with realities in their families, communities and countries challenging that ideal. If your club is ready to start a Dream It, Be It program, check out our website for resources, toolkits, necessary forms, and more.
