Connecting in New Ways: Easy Ways to Stay in Touch as a Soroptimist

One of the best parts of being a Soroptimist is the connections we make. Whether it is at convention, a club meeting, a volunteer project, a leadership event, or through friendships built across countries and cultures, Soroptimist creates opportunities to connect with people who share a passion for helping women and girls achieve their full potential.

Some connections happen during a workshop or service project. Others begin over coffee, during a conversation at an event, or through a simple introduction between members. Those relationships are part of what makes our global Soroptimist community so special.

New Ways to Stay Connected

Over the years, many members have used personalized Soroptimist business cards to exchange contact information. As technology and communication styles continue to evolve, we are moving away from providing branded member business card templates and encouraging members to explore newer, more flexible ways to connect. The good news is that connecting today can actually be easier than ever.

Many digital tools are simple to use, easy to update if your information changes, environmentally friendly, and convenient while traveling. And if technology is not your favorite thing, don’t worry. Many of these tools only take a few minutes to set up and are very easy to use once they are ready.

Here are a few simple ways to stay connected with fellow members and new contacts.

Try Using a LinkedIn QR Code

If you already use LinkedIn, this may be one of the easiest ways to connect with fellow members. LinkedIn has a built-in QR code feature that allows someone to instantly open your profile by scanning a code with their phone camera. Instead of searching for names later, members can connect with you immediately.

Helpful tip:
Take a screenshot of your QR code and save it in your photos so it is easy to pull up quickly when meeting new people.

How to find your LinkedIn QR code:

  1. Open the LinkedIn app on your phone

  1. Tap the search bar at the top of the screen

  1. Tap the small QR code icon on the right side

  1. Your personal QR code will appear

  1. Show it to someone so they can scan it

Share a Digital Contact Card

Many smartphones now allow you to share your contact information digitally, almost like sending an electronic business card. Your digital contact card can include your name, phone number, email address, club name, social media links and website information! If you are unsure how to set this up, consider asking a family member, friend, or fellow club member to help.

For Android users:

  1. Open the Contacts app

  1. Select your profile

  1. Tap “Share”

1. Choose text, email, or nearby sharing options

For iPhone users:

  1. Open the Contacts app

  1. Create or open your contact card

  1. Tap “Share Contact”

  1. Choose how you would like to share it

Sometimes Simple is Still Best

Technology can be helpful, but it is certainly not required. A small notebook or note card is still a perfectly good way to exchange names, phone numbers, and email addresses. In fact, many people still enjoy writing down a few notes about where they met someone or what they talked about. It can make reconnecting later feel even more personal.

What matters most is not how we exchange information. What matters most is the connection itself.

Connection is at the Heart of Soroptimist

Soroptimist has always been about building relationships, supporting one another, sharing ideas, and creating impact together across countries, cultures, and communities.

While the tools we use may continue to evolve, the heart behind those connections remains the same.

We hope these ideas help you feel confident, prepared, and excited to continue building connections throughout your Soroptimist journey.
