President’s Corner: November

The Live Your Dream Awards is SIA’s oldest program at 51 years, but it’s still making an incredible impact on the lives of women and their families! In the 2022-2023 club year, 2,174 women received over $2.9 million in funding to support their education dreams. This is truly incredible!

Working together to achieve our Big Goal of investing in the dreams of half a million women and girls through access to formal education will take all of us working together across our global membership. This year, we need all clubs to increase the number of Live Your Dream Awards they give by 10% to stay on track for our Big Goal target.

Here’s how you can help make that happen!

  • Rally your club to give one more award this year than it did last year. If every club that participates in the awards does that, we can reach an additional 916 women—a 42% increase over 2022-2023!

  • Take a critical look at your club’s budget to see if your spending can be more aligned to support our Big Goal by giving more Live Your Dream Awards.

  • If your club has enough funding but not enough applications, reach out to your region’s Live Your Dream Awards chair to see if there are clubs in your region with applications to share. You can also email SIA headquarters to ask for applications from women who are more than 75 miles from their nearest club—we receive hundreds of these applications every year, and most of these eligible, inspiring women will not have the chance to receive an award. Your club can change that by taking some of these applications. Just because a woman isn’t local to your town or region doesn’t mean she shouldn’t have the chance to dream big!

Achieving our Big Goal will take some new actions and thinking differently about how we do things, but I know Soroptimist can make it happen together.

Share the JOY of Soroptimist!
