SI/Santa Clara Silicon Valley, CA, Spreads Holiday Cheer to Live Your Dream Award Recipients
‘Tis the season for giving and each year, SI/Santa Clara Silicon Valley, CA (Sierra Pacific Region), does just that. The club sets up a Christmas store for its Live Your Dream Awards recipients and their families. But the unique feature about this store is that recipients don’t have to buy a thing!
Members purchase gifts for the children based on gender and age. They also provide gifts such as blankets, dishes and appliances for the mom. Each family gets to pick one gift for each child, a gift for each adult and they also receive a $50 Target gift card. Older children receive gift cards to Target, movies or fast food restaurants of their choosing.
The club also solicits dental supplies from local dentists and assembles small kits containing a toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss and mouthwash, which each family member receives as they enter the store.
“We find that the store also provides us with a chance to check in with our winners and see how they are doing. It is nice to hear their successes and how their lives have changed.”
“Of course, we don't get all of them to attend, but a majority does. Some of these women have been coming for several years. It is an event we look forward to each holiday season and hope to continue for many years to come,” Debbie added.
Many of the club’s Live Your Dream Awards recipients come from Next Door Solutions, an organization that offers shelter and counseling for domestic violence survivors and their families. What a great way to spread holiday cheer and support these women beyond the cash award!
