Why Our Leadership Walks for Women

We’re excited to launch the third annual Walk for Women in celebration of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month. It’s one of our favorite events, bringing friends, family and community together to raise awareness and funds that empower women and girls through our programs. Plus, we love getting to show off our Walk for Women shirts—it’s a simple way to spark conversations and spread Soroptimist's message.

SIA’s leaders wanted to share their #WhyIWalk as they reflect on what inspires them to participate:

“This photo from a beach walk near my home reminds me of resilience—like these deep roots holding firm. It captures exactly why I support SIA’s Walk For Women. To me, empowerment means removing barriers. I am inspired by SIA’s mission because it focuses on transformation. We don't just offer temporary aid, we change the entire trajectory of a life. Join me in walking toward a world where every woman and girl can live her dream.”

-SIA President Sue Riney

“I'm so excited to participate in this event! Because this event, held in honor of International Women's Day, showcases how Soroptimist works for women in our community and around the world.”

-SIA President-elect Madoka Ushio

“To me, women’s empowerment means a woman having the confidence, courage and ability to get what she needs out of her life. Whether she is raising children, running her own business, educating others or working for a corporation. Empowerment means women knowing their own value for themselves, family, friends, community and the world.”

-SIA Secretary/Treasurer Gail Dekreon
