Celebrate International Women’s Day with Soroptimist
March 8 is International Women’s Day and March is Women’s History Month—which means lots of opportunities to celebrate women's contributions to history, culture, and society. As Soroptimists, you give so much to the women and girls we serve, dedicating your time, mentorship, and gifts. Looking for ways to celebrate this month? We’ve got you covered with eight fantastic ideas!

Participate in SIA’s Special Events
Join our virtual tea party to celebrate International Women's Day! Come to the event with your own tea party dress attire! Interpretation will be provided to SIA's six federation languages; please indicate your language in the registration form.
Encourage Others to Join Soroptimist
Encouraging a friend to join a club—like your local Soroptimist club—not only gives them opportunities to give back to the community, but it also lets them build lifelong friendships with women like you! Nothing is more amazing than women lifting up fellow women to help all of us thrive together!
“For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”
The UN’s International Women’s Day theme is “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”
This theme calls for action that unlocks equal rights, power, and opportunities for all and a feminist future where no one is left behind. Central to this vision is empowering the next generation. Learn more
Be Aware of Issues Women Still Face Today
Although women have made progress, there are still areas where women face obstacles because of their gender. For example, women have unequal access to education, face workplace stigmas and double standards, and are under-represented in leadership. Plus, there’s domestic violence, sexual harassment, and trafficking. The list goes on and on, unfortunately—but together, we can create positive change!
Host an Event to Celebrate Women
An event is a fun way to acknowledge Women’s History Month and to build solidarity with other women. Invite your friends and allies. Make it positive and empowering!
Some fun ideas to make the event special:
Watch movies or TV shows directed by women and with female leads
Listen to your favorite music by female artists (you could even organize a dinner and dance party!)
Decorate your space with empowering quotes by women, or art by women like Frida Kahlo and Georgia O’Keefe
Take a group hike with fellow women and strike up a conversation about what sisterhood means – then post your #WhyIWalk for the Walk for Women event!
Have a mini ceremony and give out awards to each of your gal pals to celebrate their resilience, compassion, and accomplishments
Organize a book club and read influential books by women
Support Women-Owned Businesses
Support women entrepreneurs and creators. Women-owned businesses are on the rise, but women still represent a minority of business owners. March is a perfect time to show your solidarity with these tenacious entrepreneurs and service providers.
Invest in Women and Girls this International Women’s Day
This International Women’s Day, let’s turn our shared values into action. Your gift will serve as a beacon of hope, sustaining and expanding our programs that open a way to a brighter future. Help us reach more women and girls today!
