Your Quick Guide to Korea: Culture, Language & Travel
Whether you’re joining us at our 49th Biennial Convention or simply curious about the host country, take a moment to explore all things Korea! The first club in Korea was chartered in Seoul in 1966. In 1976, Korea was designated as Councils of Clubs in the federation from the assignment of territory by SI, and has “Council Presidents” representing these areas on the SIA board. Attained what is known as "full" region status in 1986. There are currently 41 Soroptimist clubs and 920 in the Korea region (not including pending charters).
Cultural Insight
Korean cultural etiquette is rooted in respect and consideration for others. Greetings often include a slight bow, and it’s customary to use both hands when giving or receiving items as a sign of politeness. Age and seniority play an important role, so showing respect to elders, like letting them speak or eat first is appreciated.
