Important Convention Registration Information
We hope you are just as excited as we are for our upcoming SIA Virtual 47th Biennial Convention! There is so much to look forward to—like our networking opportunities, new/limited edition sales items and virtual badges for attending—just to name a few!
While I am looking forward to the amazing event being planned, I’m writing today about a serious matter. It has been brought to our attention that many clubs are planning on registering one member of the club and viewing with a larger group. These “viewing parties” where groups gather in the same room and watch on one device are in theory a great concept to engage members. However, just like an in-person convention, every individual attending must register. The rationale follows:
Delegates. Delegates will be given access to voting. Members who are not delegates will not, and should not, have the ability to access the means to vote. Having groups be able to access the voting will potentially compromise the validity of the business session.
Event Costs. As you know from organizing events and meetings, there are costs associated with events, for example, interpretation for the event, translation of resources, the virtual platform, and speaker fees. Our SIA Board has established the registration rates based on individual registration in order to defray the costs associated with producing the event.
Platform Features. There are several exciting features in the platform that will require each person to have their own log-in credentials to participate, including:
access to the workshops and handouts for one year following our event.
gamification with prizes that can only be awarded per person.
We hope that you will bring this matter to the attention of the members in your club and ask them to register individually.
Thank you for aligning with us in this important matter.
In Soroptimist Friendship,
Kazuko Morita
SIA President
